Chicken - Manitoba Chicken Producers
Manitoba's 120 registered chicken farms follow strict standards to provide high quality locally grown chicken. Most of these farms are family owned and operated, and all raise chickens that are free run, grain fed, and free of added hormones and steroids. Registered farms raise chickens year round, and their most important customers are the stores and restaurants throughout Manitoba. In 2008, these farms raised just over 29 million chickens, about 4% of all the chicken in Canada.
Manitoba Chicken Producers is a not-for-profit, farmer run organization that ensures registered farms raise enough chicken to meet consumer demand, and ensures farmers get a fair price for the chickens they raise.
