Manitoba's livestock industry is worth in excess of $500 million
annually to the provincial economy. As of July 1, 2004, there were
approximately 1,750,000 cattle on Manitoba farms, meaning Manitoba has
the fourth largest herd in Canada.
Manitoba has a long history of cattle production. Many of
Manitoba's cattle producers are second, third and fourth generation
farmers who have extensive knowledge about the land on which they live.
The livestock industry is responsible for creating thousands of direct
and indirect jobs throughout Manitoba's economy.
