Agriculture - Manitoba Agriculture Food and Rural Initiatives

Manitoba Agriculture Food and Rural Initiatives (MAFRI) is a provincial government department that works to develop and support agriculture, food industries, rural and northern communities and promote the unique features of home grown products.

Agriculture is an important industry in Manitoba.  Not only are Manitoba foods enjoyed by Manitoban but they are shipped to more than 130 countries around the world.  Agri-food exports account for 37% of Manitoba's total exports and total more than $3 billion.

Agriculture is part of a complete food system.  From just over 19,000 Manitoba farms, the primary products and ingredients are grown or produced then delivered directly to consumers or sent to the processing and manufacturing sectors for further processing.
